After my last wedding for the year, my totally understanding and beautiful wife let me go for a week to Melbourne without her, so that I can attend a wedding photoshop workshop with Jerry Ghionis.

Jerry Ghionis is identified as one of the top five wedding photographers in the world, his work is really nothing short of brilliant.  One can look at his work and say wow they are beautiful and the location is stunning -  but that is because he shoots model brides in million dollar mansions.  But the fact is that Jerry has the ability to make any girl (of any size) look and feel like a supermodel, and turn the most boring hotel room into a mansion – and all without the help of photoshop.

Yes I am starting a bank fund so that I can book him for my daughter’s wedding.

The workshop with Jerry was an incredible working experience.  I have attended several workshops in the past few years, and I think I learn’t more in 3 hours with Jerry that I learn’t from any previous workshop.  Over five days (that started at 10 am and finished at midnight) my head was exploding with knowledge.  If you can only attend one photography workshop in your life, attend his, it is worth every penny, even for the huge payback to the wife for leaving her alone with the kids for a week (yes I am going to be paying for this for years to come).

So now during my break from weddings, I am madly photographing anybody I can, to try and practice and keep all this knowledge alive and well.  And as Jerry notes, like anything you can only get good with practice practice practice.  So if you want a free photoshoot, please message me on my facebook page.

As well as being a wonderful couple, from the start this wedding was going to be something special.  A wedding in the pagan tradition on the 11/11/2011, with the wedding starting at exactly 1:11 pm, and held in one of coolest wedding location in Central Queensland, the Capricorn Caves.

So here we start with black boots, purple and black flowers.

And here is Gavin and Su before the wedding, looking very nice

All seven children were the bridal party, all gorgeous.  Got to be some of the cutest bridesmaids ever.

Prior to the wedding, Gavin and Su did a first look (where the bride and groom get see each other all dressed up and alone), which is just a beautiful moment to see and capture.  Su’s purple dress was just stunning.

A very beautiful pagan wedding.

Cave light just provides beautiful opportunities for photos, I just love how it captures the emotion of the hugs and kisses – best part of a wedding.

Again the opportunities for photography are just seemingly endless in the caves.

As well as pretty good locations outside of the caves as well.

Sorry for being quiet over the last few weeks, I took a bit of a break from my blog for a number of reasons, one was to work on some my own family photos, something I have been meaning to do for many years.

I have also been taking a break to re-invent my business and photography, look out Rocky, I hope to implement big changes this year.

Emma and the girls got ready at the Coffee House in Rockhampton.

Emma and Matt’s wedding was very late in the day, so give us a bit of time for photography, Jemma and Matt decided to do a ‘first look’.  Which is where you meet your partner all dressed up before the wedding without all the guests around.  This is just at the moment of meeting, a beautiful moment to be part of and capture.

The first look was done at the Kershaw Gardens, so after introductions we did some location shot around the garden.

We also fit in some traditional bridal shots

After the first look, Matt and Jemma crossed the railway to Kershaw House to get Hitched.

After the wedding, I took some bridal portraits of Antonella and Matt, while Rebecca (yes I am eternally grateful for your help) took Sara and Travis.

But now back to the real world, after Kristen and Marc’s wedding, despite some sore heads, everybody (and I mean everybody) got up early the next day for a trash the dress shoot on the beach opposite Rosslyn Bay Resort.

I am sure Marc loves this photo, it was inspired by the cover for the film National Lampoons Holiday

What a exceptionally cool wedding party that is willing to do a trash the dress shoot with the bride and groom, what legends.

I love this one, Kristen is just so gorgeous, I got this idea from the second Shrek film (you get to see lots of Shrek when you have little kids)

And here is the stunning Kristen.  Last year I photographed Kristen sister Shannon, and she looks so much like her.

Kristen got ready plenty of time prior to the wedding, to allow for some nice photographic portraits.

Kristen was a member of the Emu Park lifesaving club, so we paid a visit for a wedding photo shoot, which I have to say was really fun.

Keeping in with the water theme, we made a quick visit to the Rosslyn Bay Mariner.

Before the reception we visited the resort for some more dramatic lighting, which I am growing to love.  I just love how the light shows how stunning Kristen is.

Kristen and Marc had me photograph the reception, which allowed for the first dance photos, one of the best parts of a wedding.

For the dancing photos, I decided to try something a bit different, and show off the lights and movement, I think it works.

Just before I went on holidays I met up with Susan and Gavin in the Rockhampton City Centre for their engagement shoot and discuss the big day.  Susan and Gavin were a great couple to photograph, and obviously had a great love for each other.

The back alleyways of Rockhampton always contain interesting back drops, colours and framing for photographs of people.
